Hymn Improvisation #1

Several weeks ago, the incredible Tom Jaber and I found ourselves in the famed Duncan Recital Hall at the Shepherd School of Rice University. We were working on recording a yet-to-be released Schumann collaboration of his. As many of you artist and musician types can understand, with the audio and video equipment all set up and ready to go, we couldn’t resist taking a few minutes to record some of our favorite hymns. Tom and I have played together for many years; we first met during my Masters Degree at Rice, I took secondary piano lessons with him, and that has grown into a wonderful friendship. Together we have collaborated on works by composers ranging in style from Francis Poulenc to Claude Bolling. Tom has conducted me in performances of Mozart’s Flute Concerti, together we’ve performed Bach’s complete St. Matthew’s Passion, and given numerous performances of Handel’s Messiah. Additionally we have played together in Sunday morning services together throughout the city of Houston, and have loved every minute. Tom is by far the best and my most favorite musician to work with and these videos were no exception. Stay tuned for several more to come!
